make your first circuit board

get a kit of electronics to assemble it for free!

Solder is a program by Hack Club, free for teens worldwide! Ends Oct 19.

how this works:

1. Design your PCB!

2. Submit your design!

3. We'll ship your kit!

4. Solder it together!

This is the Solder Kit!

Design your PCB (printed circuit board) around the components in this kit, and when you recieve it, you can assemble it with these parts!

In addition to the kit, we'll also send you a $5 HCB card grant to purchase your PCB, as well as a soldering iron if you don't have one!

It takes around 5h to design your first PCB, from scratch :D

what's in the kit?

x1

555 Timer

sometimes stable!

x6

5mm LED

random colors!

x24

resistors

220Ω, 4.7kΩ, 47kΩ

x15

2N3904 transistor

NPN type!!

x15

2N3906 transistor

PNP type!!

x1

mini motor disc

it vibrates!

x1

photoresistor

GL5528 + senses light...

x2

10uF capacitor

stores energy

x10

6mm push button

very tactile. very clicky.

x2

potentiometer

resistor... but flex

x1

breadboard

use this to prototype!

x15

jumper wires

use on breadboard!

x2

CR2032 battery cell

to hold the battery!

what is hack club?

faq

What are the submission requirements?

  • you must be between ages 13-18 (inclusive)
  • the PCB/design/art needs to be original
  • the PCB needs to fit within 100x100mm
  • use the components given in the kit
  • add spice - something unique with flavour - to your PCB!

What could I make?

Here are some ideas:

  • a keychain! maybe in the shape of a cat?
  • a name badge - for hackathons, or even conventions :3
  • some cool logic gates with transistors
  • a fidget toy!

Can I submit if I've made a PCB before?

Yes! Please note that this program is targeted towards beginners - challenge yourself to make something cool with transitors if you're familiar with electronics!

Can I do Solder more than once?

No :( This includes if you've already done Solder V1 too. There are plenty of other Hack Club hardware projects you could do!
